Twenty-one tents are thoughtfully designed to reflect the calm beauty of the desert. Draped in soft, muted colours, the hand-stitched canvas creates an atmosphere of understated elegance — local sandstone, bespoke furnishings and a private veranda on each tent ensure the experience is both beautiful and genuinely comfortable.

Thar Desert Sundowner

Venture into the vast expanse of the Great Thar on a guided rural wilderness drive or traditional camel safari. Your guide interprets the landscape as you travel toward the dunes — arriving in time to watch the desert change colour from gold to amber to deep violet.

The Manganiyar Performance

The Manganiyars are the traditional bards of the western desert — with a history spanning 13 centuries. They first played for the Suján family in the 1960s. Under open desert skies, their handcrafted instruments and ancient melodies are unlike anything heard in a concert hall.

Organic Farm and Garden

Walk to the estate's organic farm — which breeds one of India's rarest indigenous cattle species — and hand-pick ingredients with the gardeners. The Chef creates a traditional Indian breakfast from these ingredients. A genuine farm-to-table experience in the middle of the desert.

Private Dining Experience

Dinner served in the open area — a table set on the near pool or isolated area, candles lit against the dark sky, the country side as your backdrop. One of the most romantic and singular dining experiences available anywhere in Rajasthan. Arranged personally on request.

Beautifully secluded property. 45min driving to Jaisalmer. There are 20 real tents, which are super luxurious. The only downside is the really noisy airco. Even on the lowest fan speed, we needed earplugs. Bed is extra large and comfortable. Bathroom is large, with a very good open shower. Staff is extremely attentive and they made every effort to make it an exceptional stay. Thank you to the whole team! We had breakfast, lunch and dinner and they were all very nice. The pool was nice and fresh. We loved the quietness and remoteness of the property!

My family booked 2 tents at the Serai camps near the start of our India tour. After the trip, I asked my family what their favorite stay was and it was the Sujan Serai. The "tents" were really comfortable...better than some of the Oberoi's we stayed in during the trip. It was pretty cold during our stay, however the heater and space heaters kept our tents comfy. The water pressure in the shower was excellent and provided hot water immediately. The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent. Given it's remote location, don't plan to venture off campus for other dining options. If you're into bird-watching, you've come to the right place.

We had a wonderful stay at the Serai. Secluded location, spacious, tents, perfectly maintained by housekeeping. Staff was always there to make your stay fabulous Food quality and serving was of a high level. Dining outside, music from locals,candlelights , what a way to end your day Serai is the perfect place to relax. Their other place, Sujan Jawai is the place with better exploration opportunities. Of course there possibilities , you can combine with a relaxing time

The Serai was the final hotel at the end of our 10 day trip and we could not have asked for a better ending! We were a family of 5 and stayed for 2 nights. From the moment you arrive until your departure, the staff go out of their way to ensure your stay is a truly memorable one. The tents are incredibly appointed with the most beautiful amenities by Kama Ayurveda. The setting is incredibly peaceful and the surroundings just stunning. To all the staff, we'd like to say a huge 'thank you' - how you manage to ensure that a camp such as this has such a welcoming 'home from home' feel is a testament to everyone at The Serai.

One of the most wonderful experiences ever. Set on 100 acres this hotel provides unparalleled luxury. Our tent was magnificent, spacious and beautifully appointed. The staff were quietly attentive, and a delight to deal with. We had the pleasure of a special dinner and movie night under the stars, it was amazing. The safari to the sand dunes, with a camel ride and sundowner drinks at sunset was also a terrific experience. The meals were fabulous. Our stay has been a truly memorable experience, one of our favourites of all time .

What is the conservation contribution at Suján The Serai?

A mandatory conservation contribution of ₹2,500 plus 18% taxes per person per night applies to all stays. This directly funds the SUJÁN Conservation Foundation’s work supporting local communities and wildlife conservation in the Thar region. We always inform guests of this before confirming a booking — there are no surprises at check-in.

Is the property suitable for young children?

Children over eight years of age are welcome at Suján The Serai. The open desert environment, the intimate scale of the camp and the nature-focused experiences make it most suited to older children and teenagers who can genuinely appreciate the setting. The property does not have cribs available.

How far is Suján The Serai from Jaisalmer city?

The estate is located approximately 42 kilometres east of Jaisalmer city. The drive takes around 45 minutes to one hour along a well-maintained road. Levistay can coordinate transfers from Jaisalmer city, the railway station or the airport when arranging your booking.

What is included in the stay?

A complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast is served daily. All curated camp experiences — the Manganiyar musical performance, access to the organic farm, daily yoga and the guided desert walks — are included within the stay.
