Adjacent to Sri Lanka’s famed Yala National Park—renowned for possessing one of the highest leopard densities on Earth—Wild Coast Tented Lodge is an architectural marvel created by Resplendent Ceylon. Opened in 2017, this 28-cocoon wilderness sanctuary sits on a rugged beach where dense dry-zone forest gives way to giant granite boulders and the roaring surf of the Indian Ocean.

Conceptualized by Nomadic Resorts and Dutch interior studio Bo Reudler, the lodge’s architecture mimics the surrounding landscape. The main restaurant and bar pavilions resemble massive organic granite boulders smoothed by the sea, constructed using vaulted bamboo frameworks woven by local artisans and clad in local teak shingle roofs.

Accommodations comprise 28 vaulted canvas “Cocoon” suites clustered around natural waterholes. Designed with a blend of expeditionary nostalgia and contemporary luxury, the interiors feature arched vaulted ceilings, polished teak floors, leather campaign chairs, handmade copper bathtubs, and porthole windows. Four Cocoon Pool Suites feature private outdoor plunge pools set into timber decks overlooking the scrub forest.

Gastronomy at Wild Coast Tented Lodge celebrates open-air oceanfront dining and bold Sri Lankan coastal flavors. The bamboo-vaulted Ten Tuskers Restaurant serves daily changing menus featuring fresh local seafood, clay-pot curries infused with island spices, and wood-fired game grills; while the adjacent bar offers handcrafted sundowner cocktails overlooking the crashing surf.

Life at Wild Coast centers on high-country game tracking and oceanfront relaxation. Guests set out in custom-built open 4×4 vehicles with expert naturalists for morning and afternoon safaris in Yala to spot Sri Lankan leopards, sloth bears, and Asian elephants, returning to indulge in soothing herbal rituals at the Sanctuary Spa or sip sundowners around the beachside fire pit.
