Situated directly at the mouth of Cochin harbor in historic Fort Kochi, Brunton Boatyard stands on land that housed the 1895 shipbuilding yard of Geo Brunton & Sons. For over half a century, the yard produced legendary wooden vessels used across the British Empire. When CGH Earth leased the silent, abandoned waterfront site, they embarked on a meticulous architectural resurrection—building a hotel that looks and feels as though it has anchored the harbor for centuries.

Designed by renowned architect Karl Damschen, the property is a masterclass in colonial maritime architecture, seamlessly blending Dutch, Portuguese, and British Victorian design elements. High lofty wooden ceilings, lime-plastered walls, terracotta tile floors, and hand-operated cloth punkhas (hanging fans) fill the lobby, framed by antique ship anchors, spice chests, glazed clay urns from historical trading ships, and brass ship lanterns.

The hotel’s 22 guest rooms and sea-facing suites are consciously aligned along the waterfront. Every single room—including its expansive bathroom with Victorian soak tubs—faces the active harbor channel. Guests wake to the sight of traditional wooden fishing boats, cargo vessels, and dolphins playing in the estuary, with four-poster teak beds, hand-carved mahogany armchairs, and private balconies framing views toward the iconic Chinese fishing nets.

Gastronomy at Brunton Boatyard is a culinary journey through Fort Kochi’s cosmopolitan trading history. The flagship History Restaurant serves rare, forgotten recipes curated from the distinct ethnic communities that settled in Kochi—from Portuguese pork vindaloos and Dutch-style fish lamprais to Jewish roast chicken and Anglo-Indian stews. The Armoury offers casual waterfront dining and high tea, while the Terrace Grill serves freshly caught seafood cooked over open coals under the evening sky.
