Concepted and operated by The Ultimate Travelling Camp (TUTC), Chamba Camp Thiksey is a seasonal luxury glamping retreat that operates only during the high-altitude mountain summer—typically from mid-May through October. Located in the Indus Valley at an elevation of 11,500 feet, the camp sits directly below Thiksey Monastery, a 15th-century Gelugpa order complex that resembles Tibet’s Potala Palace.

The accommodations consist of custom-designed, triple-layered canvas tented suites set on raised wooden decks. Inside, the interiors strip away any notion of roughing it: leather-bound trunks, solid wood four-poster beds, writing desks, central heating for cold desert nights, and fully plumbed en-suite bathrooms with hot water showers. Each suite opens onto a private verandas facing either the monastery tiers or the snow-capped Stok Kangri mountain range.

Guest operations at Chamba Camp are anchored by a dedicated private butler service assigned to every tent. The staffing team manages the physical realities of high-altitude travel from arrival, assisting guests through their mandatory 24-to-48-hour acclimatization phase with tailored resting protocols, oxygen availability, and light herbal teas before any strenuous valley excursions begin.

Dining at the camp takes place inside a spacious central dining tent or outdoors under the clear night sky. The culinary team prepares three-course menus featuring a balance of local Ladakhi dishes, North Indian regional specialties, and international options—utilizing organic produce grown in nearby village farms along the Indus River.

What distinguishes Chamba Camp is its curated access to local monastic and cultural life. Rather than standard tour itineraries, the camp organizes early morning visits to Thiksey Monastery to witness the monks’ dawn chanting, private archery matches, guided walks through neighboring village hamlets, and picnics arranged along high-altitude riverbanks.
